Well here are tips and advice on choosing the best foundation shade for your skin.
Well, the easiest way and MOST OBVIOUS of finding the right shade for you, is to hit up a MAC store, or Sephora or perhaps a department store like Macy's or Nordstrom and have one of the sale representatives help you. They will do a couple of swatches to find the correct shade for you. Then you will be on your merry way... AFTER YOU SPEND $30!
Although this is the most easiest way, it is the most expensive.
Drugstores are obviously cheaper, but you cannot walk into a drugstore and have them try swatches for you. Why? Well, drugstores like Rite and CVS etc. don't require their employees to be knowledgeable on cosmetics. Also they do not have "test" products such as MAC and department store etc. so you can swatch on yourself.
So let's go over some tips and advice of choosing the right shade of foundation for you.
If you are going to wear foundation for the FIRST TIME EVER:
You might want to hit up a MAC store or Sephora anyway and have them pick out a foundation of your shade. Don't worry at all, darlings, you don't have to buy it. This is so you have an idea.
Now, the next few tips are for those foundation virgins and foundation oldies who seem like that they still cannot pick the right shade.
MAKE SURE YOU BRING A MIRROR!
Go to your local drugstore (sorry I'm assuming if you want to go local, go to the next state too, if that suits your fancy). Now go to whatever brand section and choose the shade you believe to be closest. DO NOT hold it to your arm/hand. You want to hold it to your neck/ jawline, this will be closer to your face skintone. Don't worry the color won't be that different, the bottle won't distort the color much.
If you are still unsure, you can always go a tad lighter. Bronzer can make-up (no pun intended) for some of the color loss. If you go too dark, there is NO helping you!
Drugstores you want to visit:
Walgreens who actually have a beauty representative. S/he can help you in your efforts in choosing the correct shade.
Ulta also can help with their beauty representatives and have high-end brands and low-end brands.
THE BEST:
Rite aid! Who have an ah-mazing return policy. You can pick a foundation, go home and test try it. If you are unsatisfied, you can go back and return or exchange it hassle-free. Just make sure it is within 10 days, have your receipt THIS IS A MUST and have the product (well, duh!)
If you know your MAC, Bobbi Brown or NARS shade or have a really well idea of your shade (e.g. medium tan, fair etc)
Temptalia's foundation martix can help you find ALL foundation brands in your shade.
Try it out: Temptalia's Foundation Martix (click here!)
But once again, to use the Temptalia foundation martix, go to MAC or Sephora (for NARS) to make sure you have an idea of your skin tone.
